VUSIRI AVAKAYA PICKLE / AMLA PICKLE

VUSIRI AVAKAYA- known as Amla in most Indian languages and Gooseberry in English. Indian gooseberry has plentiful health benefits. It is having richest source of Vitamin C. The fruit has an extremely sour and pungent taste. It is a seasonal fruit. The way it is prepared gives it a distinct taste, aroma and flavor of traditional Guntur style Andhra pickle. Once the gooseberries are cleaned and dry, they are pickled as a whole. Pickling them as whole retains the nutrients. Guntur style Vusiri Avakaya is made by shallow frying the whole gooseberries and then a combination of dried spices mix with some warm oil. Then the pickle is stored and rested for a day or two for the gooseberries to absorb the ingredients.
